2024 salary increase | Doctoral Candidates
Following the outcome of the salary negotiations for 2024, which was approved by the ETH Board, the EPFL Direction has decided to apply the 1.0% inflation compensation to doctoral candidates and post-docs as of 1 January 2024. The new compensation amounts can be found here.
Annual Report | Simplified tool is live
As of 1 December 2023, the annual report* process has been made more efficient by simplifying the content to be completed and the number of steps involved. This is a major step in improving the online tool.
*Doctoral candidates must submit an annual report to the thesis director(s) on the state of progress of their work (art. 10. Ordinance on the doctorate).
EPFL PhD Excellence Program | Applications for the 2024 cohort are open
The PhD Excellence Program aims to prepare PhD candidates for their future, not only as first-class scientists, but also as engaged and active members of society and change makers of tomorrow. This targeted program is specially designed to provide the necessary leadership and transversal skills for successful transitions to high-level career paths following graduation. Highly-motivated second year PhD candidates are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this unique opportunity.

EPFL Doc.Mobility | Call for applications
The 6th call for applications for the EPFL Doc.Mobility grant will be launched on 16 January 2024. The EPFL Doc.Mobility offers financial support to doctoral candidates enrolled at EPFL who wish to carry out a research stay abroad in order to acquire more in-depth scientific knowledge, develop their scientific network and progress in their thesis within the scope of the awarded mobility. It is granted for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months.
The deadline for applications will be 1 March 2024.

Cyber-Defence Fellowships | Call for applications open
CYD fellowships have been jointly launched by EPFL with the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus with the aim to promote research and innovation in cyber-defence. A diverse range of fellowship opportunities are now open in Switzerland aimed at Master, Doctoral and Postdoctoral researchers as well as at future entrepreneurs:
- Doctoral Fellowships (up to 4 years plus 1-year potential extension): deadline on 24 February 2024
- Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships (up to two years): deadline on 24 February 2024
- Master Thesis Fellowships (6 months): open rolling call
- Proof of concept Fellowship (12 months): open rolling call
An online Applicant Workshop will be held on 23 January 2024 (11-11:45 CET).

Physical activity | The SESSIONS are back
From 9 January 2024, SESSIONS are be back at EPFL to get the new year off to a good start. Entirely free of charge, these 30-minute activities are offered to all EPFL members with the aim of getting the campus moving and making it easier for people to engage in physical activity on a daily basis.
