PhD Excellence Program | 2026 Call for application

For PhD candidates aiming to build a career beyond academia - whether in industry, science policy, or entrepreneurship - this program offers a unique opportunity to develop transversal skills and stand out to future employers and investors. The call is open to EPFL doctoral candidates in any of the 22 programs who will have passed their candidacy exam by May 2026.

Doc.Mobility program | 2026 Call for application

Enhance your research experience and develop your scientific network through a stay abroad! The program funds stays of 3 to 6 months and contributes to personal living expenses, travel costs, conference participation, tuition fees, and family-related expenses.

Doctoral Program Thesis Distinction | 36 laureates in 2025

Created eight years ago, the "Doctoral Program Thesis Distinction" aims to highlight research work of exceptional quality. For this ninth edition, 36 of the 465 doctors who defended their thesis over the academic year 2024-2025 have been awarded. These laureates received a certificate as well as an engraved card holder offered by EPFL. 

Our heartfelt congratulations to the laureates for their outstanding contributions to research!

Doctoral Program Directors | Appointments

  • Prof. Michele De Palma has been appointed Director of the doctoral program in Molecular Life Sciences (EDMS) starting December 1, 2025.
  • Prof. Selman Sakar has been appointed Director of the doctoral program in Robotics, Control, and Intelligent Systems (EDRS) starting January 1, 2026.
  • Prof. Francesco Mondada has been appointed ad interim Director of the joint EPFL – ETH Zurich Doctoral Program in the Learning Sciences (JDPLS) starting March 1, 2026.

PhD candidates based at one of our associated campuses – in Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Sion – who travel to the Lausanne campus to use a Trust and Support Network service can have their travel costs reimbursed.
