Welcome to Annalisa Buffa

 
 
 
 

Management | New Associate Vice President

The Doctoral School warmly welcomes Annalisa Buffa, who took over from Luisa Lambertini the head of the Associate Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Education as of 1 February 2023. Prof. Buffa holds the Chair of Numerical Modelling and Simulation at EPFL and, as the new Associate Vice President, she's committed to meeting current and future challenges in education and the needs of the postgraduate student community. To learn more about her and her vision don't hesitate to watch the new video available on the AVP-PGE website.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Prof. Luisa Lambertini for her great contribution to the development of the Doctoral School and Continuing Education since the reorganisation of the Vice Presidency for Academic Affairs in January 2021 and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.


Doc.Mobility | Call for Applications

EPFL Doc.Mobility is the successor of the SNSF Doc.Mobility instrument. It offers financial support to doctoral students enrolled at EPFL who wish to carry out a research stay abroad in order to acquire more in-depth scientific knowledge, develop their scientific network and progress in their thesis within the scope of the awarded mobility. It is granted for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months. The 4th call for project proposals is now open. The deadline for application submission is 1 May 2023 at 17:00h Swiss local time. For those interested, an information session will be organized on 20 March 2023 at 17:00h via Zoom

Transferable Skills Course | “Motion Design for Scientists” 

A new transferable skills course has been accepted at the last meeting of the Doctoral Commission (Cdoct). The "Motion Design for Scientists" course aims to equip students with foundational design skills in Adobe Illustrator and motion design in Adobe After Effects, as well as theoretical and practical skills for designing more attractive scientific figures and presentations. It will be will be taught by Dr. Robbie I'Anson Price and and should be available in the autumn semester of the 2023-24 academic year.

PhD Welcome Event | Save the date

The Doctoral School is preparing a welcome event on 20 November 2023 at the Forum Rolex for doctoral students who are in their first year. On the programme: your PhD journey, services for research at EPFL, your well-being and personal development, testimonials from EPFL PhD alumni, networking aperitif and much more. Further information will follow in due course, in the meantime, make sure to save this date in your agenda.


Research and Doctoral Awards Ceremony | Save the date

After the success of the first edition in 2022, the Research Office and the Doctoral School are organising the Research and Doctoral Awards Ceremony again this year to present the EPFL Research Awards to the winners and to congratulate all doctoral students who have successfully completed their thesis in the current academic year. With this event, we would like to give the opportunity to the graduating doctoral students to honour the end of their studies at EPFL and to celebrate the completion of their doctorate with their family and friends. The event will take place on 23 November 2023 at 17:00h at the Forum Rolex and will be followed by an aperitif. More information will follow, in the meantime, do not hesitate to visit the event's webpage or see last year's video and photos.
