Quality Newsletter #4

January

Dear Reader,

The EPFL Quality Commission is pleased to start the new year with good news: the Swiss Accreditation Council (SAC) has confirmed EPFL's institutional accreditation.

In lifting the condition imposed as a result of the evaluation process in 2021-2022, the Council fully recognizes EPFL as a university in the legal sense

To meet this condition:

  • The EPFL Management set up a permanent Quality Commission to promote a quality culture at EPFL. This Commission improves the institution's quality management system (QMS) and regularly verifies that all procedures are effective, efficient, adequately evaluated and communicated (in short, that all quality loops are closed).

  • EPFL has strengthened its internal and external communication on quality assurance with several instruments: a chapter on quality management has been included in the Compliance Guide; launch of the Quality Newsletter; a recurring paragraph on quality management in Open Campus; an interactive website dedicated to quality assurance have also been launched (with voting options).

  • The effectiveness of these measures is monitored using performance, effect and impact indicators.

On behalf of the EPFL Management, we would like to thank :

  • The members of the Quality Commission, and in particular the process pilots, the representatives of AE, AGEPoly, CCE, CDS, CAPE and Mediacom, for their commitment and their contributions.

  • All EPFL staff and the entire student body who responded to numerous surveys and helped spread the quality culture at all levels.

  • The Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (AAQ) for their collaboration and support.

The Quality Commission will continue its activities with a new composition and a new mandate. Further information will follow.

Best regards,

On behalf of the Quality Committee, Ewa Mariéthoz and Paul Sunderland
