Word from the team

Dear reader,

As you may have read recently, EPFL startups had a successful fundraising year in 2022, despite the economic headwinds. With 28 early-stage funding rounds for a total record of 73 million francs, investors showed strong confidence in EPFL startups.

2022 was also a banner year for the Technology Transfer Office, with 144 invention and software disclosures, 86 new patent applications and 43 license agreements (see all the figures below). Enable - the TTO's research commercialization program – also supported 10 promising projects. One of them is developing new and innovative methods to fight the scourge of antibiotic resistance. Read this story in our "Technology transfer in action" section.

On another note, we are pleased to announce that for the first time, the Management of Innovation and Technology Transfer (MINTT) course offered by our Office is also open to external participants. Applications are open until April 28, 2023.

Last but not least, make sure to check our latest licensing opportunities. You may find the ideal technology for your future business...

Happy reading,

The TTO Team

“Antibiotic-resistant infections are responsible for over one million deaths every year, including 250,000 children under the age of five,” says Prof. Alexandre Persat, the head of EPFL’s Microbial Mechanics Lab. “For now, physicians have very few other options available. The situation is already catastrophic, and if we don’t come up with an effective response quickly, it will get much worse.”

Prof Persat received support from enable, the TTO's research commercialization program, to pursue his research.
